With such a wide choice of styles, dimensions, outputs and colours, we have put together a short Selection Guide (hyperlink) to get you started in your selection process. Our Alurad staff are also happy to share their knowledge to help you fine your Perfect Radiator!

This will depend on such things as the size of your room, the level of insulation. In the Build Your Radiator section of the website, you can input your room details to determine the watts/BTU you require to heat your room. For further detail please also refer to the Sizing Your Alurad section of the website.

Larger rooms will be heated best by two smaller radiators positioned evenly throughout the room rather than one large radiator at one end. You can divide one large ALURAD into a number of smaller radiators for the same price as long as the overall segment numbers remain the same.
It is fine to place your radiators under windows or on an outside wall as this is the coldest part of the room and the direct heat of the radiator balances the incoming cold air. Radiator placement most times can depend on your furniture arrangement or space restriction. Placing a radiator on an interior wall is fine also. The big factor to consider is what will be in front of the radiator. If you have full length curtains, avoid placing your radiators at the window behind these. Try to position your ALURAD on a wall space that is not likely to be obstructed by furniture, shelving etc.

Yes. Alurad can be designed to fit your current pipe lengths so that there is minimal disruption in replacement.

Yes. ALURAD work really well with underfloor heating due to their low water content. Many people actually prefer to have radiators in bedroom areas to enable each room to be adjusted to the occupant’s preferred temperature.

Mixing different metals in a central heating system can leave the system susceptible to galvanic corrosion (where different metals meet). Your ALURAD radiators are equipped with a specialised anti-corrosion measure. A special aluminium alloy used in the production of ALURAD results in smooth water channel surfaces preventing deposit of substances which lead to corrosion. In addition, each ALURAD radiator is equipped with an Antikor inhibitor tablet during manufacturing. On contact with warm water, this tablet will dissolve and be absorbed onto the internal surfaces of the ALURAD. We also recommend filling your system with our special pre-mixed inhibitor fluid Antikor (hyperlink to Inhibitor Fluid page)

Alurad can be sized to work with all heating systems from solid fuel, gas and oil to heat pumps, pellet boilers, and solar central heating. Please refer to the Sizing (hyperlink) section of the website for further information. The Build Your Radiator section of this website enables you to select which heating system you are using, and your Alurad will be sized accordingly. In general, Alurad work great with solid fuel as the low water content puts much less work on your stove to heat the rooms. Many people upgrading to condensing boilers are installing Alurad as they work perfectly with the lower temperature requirements of the boilers. Heat Pumps also work at much lower temperatures making it impossible to use steel radiators with such systems.

No. Your boiler is sized to provide the heat required by your house. Although ALURAD use less water and are smaller in size, they still provide the same amount of heat as conventional radiators and therefore your boiler size remains the same.

Yes. In a house with conventional radiators we know that if we turn on our heat it will take up to an hour or two for all the radiators to heat up properly (depending on the size of house and number of radiators). When our room reaches the required temperature, our heat is turned off. Steel radiators will stay warm for an hour or so afterwards- this heat is surplus to requirements and therefore a waste of energy. In contrast, Alurad will heat up almost instantly bringing your entire house up to temperature rapidly. When the desired temperature is reached, the Alurad cool down. There is no waste of excess heat.

No- your ALURAD work with ½ inch water passages and therefore dirt will not be an issue any more than it would be with other radiators. To ensure the effective operation of any radiators the heating system should be free from dirt:

  • Fill your central heating system and operate your boiler long enough to ensure the circulation of water throughout your system a few times.
  • Drain down the entire system to remove any dirt
  • Refill system

No. Grants are available from Sustainable Energy Ireland (www.sei.ie ) for the upgrade of heating systems and controls. Radiators are not applicable, but while work is being done many customers take the opportunity to partner their new heating system with more efficient and attractive radiators.

Alurad come with a 10 year warranty when commissioned using the Antikor Inhibitor Fluid, and 5 years otherwise. Your Alurad will stand the test of time, refer to the Customer References section of this website for first hand experiences.
